THE STORY- “THE GLITCH”

Our  students step into a world where reality is beginning to break down —  Awareness begins when  suddenly, a friend goes missing, trapped inside the glitch itself.

It’s up to the TEAM to work together to figure out what’s happening and find a way to rescue them before reality deteriorates, forever. Will they make it in time?.

THE COURSE

Over 10 weeks, our  young actors  will collaborate to bring a pre-structured sci-fi short film to life by

- Creating Characters

-Brainstorming dialogue to fill in gaps with their personalities

-Envisioning creative details from costumes/make up and beyond

- Learning how a professional film set operates

-Students will act, problem-solve, and make creative choices as they move through each scene of the story to the SURPRISING ending…DUH DUH DUNH.

-The film’s scene framework is set before the class begins, giving students clear direction and ensuring the project is completed on time — while still leaving plenty of room for imagination, performance, and collaboration.

Additional skills learned

-Improv, confidence boosting, acting for camera vs acting onstage, script development, creative ingenuity,

-Whether behind the scenes or in front of the camera, this course is a great intro to working on set with professional gear, including green screen

-As with ALL KISMET COURSES we are A safe space where Students learn to build Community, Compassion, Creativity, and Confidence

*This class is perfect for youth ages 7 and up, with flexible roles, movement-based learning,

No previous acting or film experience is required. For those that are interested in a career in Film/TV, they will have the knowledge to begin (or continue) that journey.

-Clips can be used to create demo reels for those pursuing acting

-iTech skills from slating to setting up lighting and shots (it’s never too early to learn)-We live so close to “Hollywood North” aka Vancouver. We have a lively film/TV industry here on the island with opportunities to work professionally.  Whether the students want to pursue this seriously, or are just in it for the FUN, and building SKILLS, Kismet offers it all.

Upon registration

Families will receive a shooting schedule and a contract to sign (just like in a professional project).

*NO DROPOUTS AFTER WEEK ONE

-It is important we stick to this schedule for the overall timeline absences need to be kept to minimum.

- Even if the actor themselves isn't shooting that day they will be helping behind the scenes or in rehearsal for upcoming shoot dates

 - We will be shooting on greenscreen in the studio. No green hair or clothing. Students will be able to see themselves in the environment using a monitor and live switcher. No hair cuts/change in colours/nail colour/tattoos or piercings for the 10 weeks as it ruins what is known as “CONTINUITY”

-Scenes will be developed with characters that students have input in creating to help tell the story

AN ACTING INTENSIVE FOR YOUTH AGE 10-16

WEDNESDAY APRIL 1-WEDNESDAY MAY 6 4:30-6 PM COST 250$

In this 6 week course with veteran professional actor/director/playwright and mentor Bonnie Catterson Kent, will take these students deep into the acting process known as “the craft”. Where they will learn new skills for their tool box. For actors, we have 3 instruments; our bodies, our voices, and our humanity. Acting is a study of humanity, of how we connect to ourselves and to one another. We will take a deep dive into examining what humans need and how they go about getting it in the context of telling stories. We will work on monologues, short scenes, and songs to connect to the characters we inhabit. THIS IS NOT A PERFORMANCE BASED CLASS BUT ALL STUDENTS WILL BE CONSIDERED FOR FUTURE PROJECTS

TEEN/ADULT EXPLORATION OF OURSELVES THROUGH STORY

Play time for adults! We all need to reconnect with their inner artist (aka child) Open up to vulnerability, learn from a trauma informed place how to dive into character, let go of ego, and relearn how to explore and have fun telling stories and engaging audiences in order to feel a greater sense of community and connection. This class is for anyone who is longing to feel connected to themselves and to others, to step outside of their comfort zone because ADULTING SHOULD BE FUN TOO! Maybe you did a school play once and loved it. Maybe you secretly want to know what it feels like to step into someone else’s shoes. Or maybe you are exhausted. by being an adult and the problems of the world! With a focus on regulating our nervous systems and finding joy and compassion for ourselves and through shared connection. This is a class for EVERYONE. For professional actors looking to up their game and sharpen their tools, or for people who secretly wonder what it would feel like. Taught by veteran actor and director Bonnie Catterson Kent, a combination of her years of teaching the craft of acting and it’s therapeutic impact on each and every student can be life changing.
